OUR VISION for 2010 and beyond!

Place:

We value place because of the tendency of God to show up there.  God does not float above the fray, and consequently neither will we.   The places along Route 195 will help to shape the unique ministry that Latah Valley has been called to offer.   What are the stresses of owning and maintaining a home?  Latah Valley will endeavor to speak to them.  Other than making a profit, what might be the purpose of opening a new business?   Latah Valley will hope to provide some alternatives...  Plus, there's that special feeling that we have, gathering near the creek and beneath the trees at 202 East Meadow Lane Road.

Personality:

Slowly, but surely, Latah Valley is discerning its collective personality.   Who will we be?    The answer does  not merely depend upon our denominational affiliation or the religious tradition we've inherited (Presbyterian and Reformed).   Our personality as a newly forming congregation comes from the vulnerable ways that we open ourselves to one another and to God.   The gifts and experiences of our pioneering members will keep us grounded and open to all who truly seek to get to the bottom of things.  Moreover, the hunch we're playing is Latah Valley will discover strength in weakness and hope in the broken heart.

The Who                              The Why                         The How

"Let each of your look not to your own interests, but to the interest of others.  Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus, who though he was in the form of God, did not regard quality with God as something to be exploited..."

--Philippians 2:4--6

Potential:

In children's ministry, youth ministry and spiritual formation for adults, Latah Valley has fantastic potential.  We continue to be amazed at the way new acquaintances have stepped up into leadership.   New Threshold Small Groups are beginning to form and with them there is the crucial opportunity to be known by others in Christ.   At Latah Valley, we find that humility gives way to the best possible decisions.  No matter how mature you already consider yourself to be, there's always, always, always room to grow.

Power:

Latah Valley will empower people through its Threshold Small Group program.  God has given us power through the Holy Spirit in the story of Jesus of Nazareth--his life, death and resurrection.  With this in mind, we cannot experience that power without participating  in forums where the story is told and re-told.  In addition to Threshold Groups, look for the Seven L’s [See Mission Statement].  Elective courses will include Spiritual Story-Telling (on Jesus’ parables and our poetry), Spiritual Disciplines (on prayer, hospitality, stewardship and testimony) and Spiritual Gifts (on the special abilities or talents that God has given peculiarly to you).

Possibility:

What are the possibilities of your life?   Are they limited merely to your birth, your blood, your background or temperament?   At Latah Valley, our contention is that the future is wide open because of God's work in Christ Jesus.  Who knows?   This very year might find you setting new priorities to serve and not to count the cost of that service.   Homeless shelters, prisons, hospitals and Habitat for Humanity houses await.  It is at least possible that we may see you there.
